Julian ‘Julinu’ Mallia is a Maltese award-winning visual artist specialising in concept-driven work. His most representative visual output is typically idea-driven, characterised by atmospheric and surreal imagery and occasionally laced with dry humour. Originally a psychology graduate, Julian juggles his creative practice between fine art painting, digital illustration, and drumming – indicating his unconventional approach to creative exploration. Julian has exhibited both locally and internationally and his work has been used in various contexts – such as on album covers by numerous musicians (including world-renowned drummer Benny Greb), for advertising campaigns, animations and several book covers. Among notable recognition the artist was awarded at the AOI World Illustration Awards 2016 and named Artist of the Year at the Malta Arts Awards 2020. Julian is also the drummer for established metal band Weeping Silence and is intrigued by the overlap between visual art and music.
