On this day, Malta celebrates the memory of Dun Karm Psaila, the author of the Maltese National Anthem and the island’s National Poet. Dun Karm Day which occurs during October sees a commemorative ceremony hosted under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Malta, with the participation of the Academy of Maltese.

The ceremony, which commences with the National Anthem, includes a speech from the President, followed by Għana (traditional Maltese rhymes), a recitle poems penned by Dun Karm Psaila himself, as well as a discussion chaired by members of the Academy of Maltese.
