Youth Worker and Project Coordinator
Omar Rababah is a youth worker who holds human rights and the migrant community close to his heart. Born and raised in Malta, Omar has had a first-hand experience with much of the discrimination and stereotypical behaviour Maltese children with migrant parents face. He has since been an active voice for the migrant and Syrian community, working to break stereotypes and the successful integration of migrants with the Maltese community.
Omar Rababah has a degree in Social Work, as well as a Masters in Access to Education from the University of Malta. He has contributed to several EU-based projects, as well as workshops organised by the Maltese human rights organisation Aditus. These workshops, of which Omar was the coordinator, invite migrant youths across various communities to share their experiences with migration.
Omar’s mission is to not only promote human rights to all, the migrant and Maltese communities alike; but to ensure successful cooperation and unity between all those who are living on the Maltese islands. Through regular meet-ups between the communities and the full understanding of the intertwined cultures, Omar hopes to rid the negative connotations associated with migration and those who experience it.
As part of his contributions to the community, Omar recently campaigned to the United Nations, and succeeded, in including Maltese as part of the ‘Add Your Voice Campaign’ – an initiative that allows people to recite the Declaration of Human Rights in their own language. He has worked with Agenzija Appoġġ and is currently working as a youth worker with the Ministry of Education’s Migrant Learners’ Unit.
Omar will act as the coordinator and the main point of contact for the participants of the I.COM project. His role is to help these participants with any questions they may have, offer guidance and support through his experience as a youth worker, as well as monitor the behaviour of these participants to ensure that the initiative is successful.
