Biography
Tommaso Franchin, even before completing his studies in Theater Sciences and Techniques at IUAV University of Venice, won the competition for the staging of F. Cavalli's La Virtù de' strali d'amore at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In the same year, he worked as a puppeteer for the Carlo Colla & Sons Company in Marionette Macbeth at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. In 2010, he was assistant director to D. Livermore for A. Boito's Mefistofele at the Korea National Opera in Seoul and directed G. Puccini's Il Tabarro in Trieste for the Accademia Lirica Santa Croce. In 2012, together with actor Andrea Dellai, he founded exvUoto Teatro, a company with which he produces shows, theatrical installations, and site-specific performances. He works as assistant director for some of the most important names in the scene (Michieletto, Vacis, Micheli). For exvUoto Teatro, he directed SISTER(s), the play was selected for the Premio Scenario, and it was winner of the CURA2016 grant, and it was invited to the TRAMEDAUTORE 2018 contemporary dramaturgy festival at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano. In November 2018, he curated the staging of the electroacoustic concert L’Urlo di Armida, conceived together with Giulia Semenzato to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. In 2020, with exvUoto Teatro, he won the Cross Award International Performing Arts Prize for the show Nella Tana. In 2021, he directed Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Cortinateatro, the first opera production ever realized in Cortina. In the summer of 2022, he directed the world premiere of Opera Italiana, composed by N. Campogrande with a libretto by P. Bodrato and Elio, for the 48th edition of the Festival della Valle d'Itria. In 2023, he directedDe Bello Gallico by N. Campogrande at the Pergolesi Spontini Theater in Jesi (AN). He currently alternates his work as a director with that of a creator and curator of participatory theatrical projects aimed at regenerating the social fabric throughout Italy.
