Teatru Malta and Give or Take Productions are teaming up to present Boċċi the Musical, an original production developed during the Studio Francis Ebejer programme in 2023, Boċċi is a celebration of Maltese resilience, humour, and camaraderie. 

Set against the backdrop of a struggling boċċi club teetering on the edge of closure, audiences are introduced to a team of lovable misfits and their unlikely heroine, a canny young mother who refuses to let the club, and what it represents, fade into obscurity. As they join forces to take on a fierce rival team, a battle unfolds; for victory, yes, but also for the survival of a way of life that is slowly slipping away.

In a break from conventional theatre spaces, Boċċi the Musical will be performed in boċċi fields across Malta and Gozo, drawing audiences directly into the world of the characters, with a different location each weekend between June 13th and July 20th 2025. With a book by Malcolm Galea, music and lyrics by Matthew James Borg, and co-direction by Galea and Teatru Malta Ensemble Member Philip Leone-Ganado, this show promises to deliver heart, humour, and a highly original take on an iconic Maltese pastime.

Galea, known for his sharp and witty storytelling, brings his experience from hit musicals like Il-Kbir Għadu Ġej (2019, 2022), Porn the Musical, which won the Off-West End Theatre Award for Best New Musical during its London run in 2010 and The Trials of Magnus Coffinkey, which won the Outstanding Theatre Award at the Brighton Fringe in 2024.
