Synopsis

This first edition of Għana Għand tal-Iżgej is an exciting opportunity to experience għana in its authentic and grassroots context. The garage belonging to Mikiel Cumbo, affectionately known as ‘L-Iżgej’, will serve as the venue for the showcase of some of the finest singers, guitarists, and practitioners of the għana tradition.

The programme promises to be diverse and entertaining, with two sessions of għana spirtu pront, which involves improvised rhyming duels, traditional guitar playing, and segments of high-pitched singing known as Il-Bormliża. The evening’s activities will be presented by radio veteran and folklorist Charles Coleiro.

In addition to the music, the evening will include traditional food and drinks, which is customary hospitality of the Cumbo family. An exciting and authentic cultural experience not to be missed.
