Tchavolo Schmitt on Manouche Guitar

Tchavolo Schmitt is a gypsy jazz guitarist from Paris who was introduced to the guitar at the age of 6. He developed a virtuosity in the manouche style (gypsy jazz) and performed as a member of various ensembles in the 1970s. Then he settled in Strasbourg and left the professional circuit for a time, releasing solo albums in 2000. He played in Tony Gatlif’s films Swing and Latcho Drom.

Tchavolo will give a presentation of the manouche-guitar style, playing excerpts and showing techniques, progressions and guitar licks, accompanied on rhythm guitar by Julien Cattiaux. The workshop is an opportunity to learn from a master in the genre who will provide insights into the musical tradition.

This workshop is open to all guitarists of intermediate to advanced level on steel string guitars. The workshop will be conducted in French with an interpreter present.
