THE ART OF SONG WHEN BAROQUE MEETS JAZZ
RITA MARIA & FILIPE RAPOSO
Like the exaltation of an old shadow, the morning breath of renewal and nostalgia will accentuate the paradox of the construction of being." (...) "It is then that the task of unification of forms and the living circulation of opposites is imposed, in such a way that the interior of the construction acquires the slow thickness of temporality and the limpid vivacity of each instant.
António Ramos Rosa in O Aprendiz Secreto
After the album Live in Oslo, the duo Rita Maria and Filipe Raposo returned to the stage to present their most recent album The Art of Song: When Baroque meets Jazz. In this work, which is being presented in today’s programme, the duo explores the formal musical universe of the extensive Baroque period associating it with the stylistic freedom of improvisation and Jazz.
The musical influences that artistically shape Rita Maria and Filipe Raposo cohabit their own territory - erudite music, jazz and traditional song - which are, in fact, premises for this performance and mirrored in the original compositions.
The resonances between Baroque and Jazz are innumerable. However, one thing stands out: its melodies woven by a timeless DNA that Rita & Filipe keep and secretly carry in their affective memories.
