Modern Dance by Uri Ivgi (Israel/Holland)

DFM Workshops 28 July
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Uri Ivgi teaches a modern class based on the dynamic dance language of Ivgi&Greben. His class starts with a warming-up focusing on freeing the muscles and joints to create a total free body. Afterwards, he gradually guides the dancers through small dance phrases involving the use of space. The class will finally develop in very dynamic combinations where Uri includes a lot of floorwork. His aim is to challenge the dancers to work with their extremes but still with the awareness of ‘the free body.

Uri Ivgi
Ivgi&Greben represent their ideas through an intense movement language that they combine with poetic images that touch and confront. They regard their work as a mirror to their audience, as well as themselves to seek a personal reflection of reality. With themes such as oppression, the tension between individuals and groups, the desire for freedom and love, and sexuality and acceptance, Ivgi&Greben create a visual world where movement, music, light, and costumes come together in their aesthetic world. In 2011, Ivgi&Greben received the prestigious Golden Mask Award in Russia for the Best Choreographer – Ballet/Contemporary Dance.
