MALTA INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL 2021

Dance residency - M.A.D. (Music and Dance)


The Malta International Arts Festival (MIAF) is looking for 5 dancers (male / female) to participate in a 10-day intensive dance residency (choreographic lab) directed by two choreographers. This residency will culminate into three short choreographic works based on music by three composers. The M.A.D (Music and Dance) performance will be filmed for the Malta International Arts Festival on the 23rd June 2021.

Dancers will be selected through an audition process. The selected applicants will have the opportunity to receive an explorative experience, widen their abilities and vision by working with Pamela Kerr and Gaby Davies in two contrasting styles of work.


Applicants must have a strong contemporary dance technique and a knowledge of classical technique, a good feeling for lines and detail, flexibility, improvisational skills and open-mindedness, be thought provoking as well as being able to contribute to the creative process for collaboration with the choreographers.

Time of Audition: 14:00


Audition Venue: Moveo Dance Studios 112 Nazju Ellul Str. Gzira


Deadline for application: 12th May 2021 (12.00pm - noon)


Residency working period: 14th June – 23rd June 2021


Hrs of residency with Pamela Kerr: 09.00 – 13.00hrs


Hrs of residency with Gaby Davies: 14.00 – 18.00hrs (including weekend)


Filming date: 23rd June 2021

Audition fee: None


Residency fee: None


Filming remuneration: €400 (Four Hundred Euros)


Applicants (18+) must send an e-mail to festival manager Caroline Agius (caroline.c.agius@festivals.mt), citing ‘Dance residency - M.A.D. (Music and Dance)’ in the subject line, including the following information:

  1. Photo of face and body

  2. CV outline

  3. Video link of footage dancing (maximum of three links not longer than one minute each)


Only applicants who are committed to the whole duration of the residency and performance need apply. Selected dancers will be performing three short works. Only dancers living in Malta need apply. An agreement between the two parties will be signed. MIAF will offer a remuneration fee of €400 (400 Hundred Euros). MIAF will also issue signed certification of participation of residency and performance.



Choreographers:

Pamela Kerr

Pamela Kerr

Pamela started her ballet training at the Tanya Bayona Academy and the London Studio Centre. Returning to Malta she resumed her dance training locally under the direction of Theresa Lungaro Mifsud. Kerr began exploring contemporary dance under the guidance of Francesca Abela Tranter. Over the years she has participated in various festivals and performances, both locally and internationally, collaborating and performing with many dance artists and companies. In 2012 she became the Artistic Director of Dance Works guiding young dancers towards a professional stage. Pamela currently works as a freelance choreographer, dance performer and rehearsal director. In 2018 TAG, a performance she codirected and choreographed with Kostas Papamatthaiakis, was nominated for Best performance for young audiences for the 2017/2018 season. She is currently teaching at The Dance Workshop.


Gaby Davies

Gaby Davis

Gaby Davies is a freelance dance artist, trained in Malta, UK, and India. She began her dance training in classical ballet, and later drew her focus towards contemporary dance which led her to complete a BA in Dance Studies (University of Malta (2015)). Her further studies led her to the UK where she graduated with a Masters in Choreography and Professional Practices (University of Chichester (2016)). She later completed a Dance Apprenticeship at Play Practice, India (2018). Davies has had the opportunity to train and/or work under the direction of Mavin Khoo, Jose Agudo, Victoria Fox, Nico Monaco, Athanasia Kanellopoulou, Francesca Tranter, Yoshua Cienfuegos, Oded Ronen, amongst others, performing in Malta, Spain, UK and India. She has choreographed works for ZfinMalta, Moveo Dance Company, Sanskar Festival(India), UOM Dance Tour, Play Practice (India), Estancias Coreográficas (Spain), Notte Bianca, Diciembre Dance Group, Junior Dance Company, DSA Conference and Malta Arts Festival Fringe (Tabula Rasa). She has performed & presented work in venues around Malta, Holland, UK, Spain, Italy and India.
