Laurent Coq (FRANCE - piano)
Laurent Coq is a French pianist and composer who has been very active on both sides of the Altantic for the past twenty five years. From his first New York stay in 1994 to the fruitful years he spent as a resident from 2000 to 2005, Laurent has collaborated with some of the major figures of modern jazz including Miguel Zenón, Walter Smith III, Julien Lourau, Johnathan Blake. Now based in Paris where he teaches, he’s been involved with younger musicians from the new Parisian scene (Ralph Lavital, Guilhem Flouzat). This year, Laurent Coq comes to the Malta Jazz Festival for the second time under his name, this time with a new trio that is set to record its first album this summer.
