Fabulous Flamenco

Virtuoso guitarists The Barcelona Trio will treat audiences to a vivacious and enchanting show of flamenco-driven compositions

“Our video says everything”, reads the title to an eye-catching video of the Barcelona Trio in action on their website. Indeed the video speaks louder than words, but an attempt to capture the essence of this performance would be to describe it as a vivacious, emotion-driven, tour de force of flamenco bravado.

The Barcelona Trio are an exciting amalgamation of virtuosity, humour and flamenco-driven passion. Fronted by the Catalan maestros Manuel González, Xavier Coll, and Luis Robisco, the trio have wowed audiences the world over with their renditions of big names like Manuel de Falla, Federico García Lorca, Isaac Albéniz, Chick Corea, and Paco de Lucía.

On 11 July audiences in Malta will be treated the internationally praised trio as they pay tribute to legendary Spanish guitarist, composer and record producer Paco de Lucía (1947 – 2014). A leading proponent of the new flamenco style,Paco de Lucía was one of the first flamenco guitarists to branch into classical and jazz.

The Barcelona Trio has been one of the most popular of its kind to come out of Spain in recent years, and its accomplishments include playing in front of over 720,000 people at more than 800 concerts, as well as selling over 42,000 albums. The individual members of the group are also all well-renowned in their solo careers. González has been named as one of the leading specialists in Spanish music by The New York Times. He also founded the Maestros la Guitarra festival. Coll, who specialises in historic instruments, has recorded two solo albums and has been a Professor at the High School of Music of Catalonia since 2003. And Robisco, who studied under two of the best masters of Spanish and flamenco guitars, has become internationally renowned for his unique interpretation of Spanish guitar.
