PRESS RELEASE BY FESTIVALS MALTA: Republic Day, 13th December 2025

Republic Day commemorates the day Malta revised its constitution and effectively became a Republic. Therefore Malta was no longer under a foreign head of state and the monarchy of the United Kingdom, and instead, the first President of the Republic of Malta, Sir Anthony Mamo, was appointed. On the occasion of the 51st anniversary of Republic Day, Festivals Malta, through the National Festivals Committee, together with the Office of the President, is organising commemorative activities to mark this day.

On Saturday 13 December 2025, Republic Day, at 10:00 am, the ceremonial parade will be organised by the Armed Forces of Malta. The occasion will be attended by the country’s highest authorities including the President of Malta, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr Robert Abela, along with other distinguished guests. Festivals Malta appeals to the public to attend this ceremony in St George’s Square, Valletta. At 11:00 am, an investiture ceremony and the awarding of medals will take place in the Grand Council Hall, in the Grand Master’s Palace, Valletta. All these events will be broadcast live on TVM+.

Later in the evening, a march will be held along Republic Street by the “La Vallette” National Philharmonic Society on the occasion of Republic Day. The march will start from Freedom Square at 5.15 pm.
